Meet the grads

A clean slate is an exciting thing to have, it’s a fresh approach with a wealth of possibilities. We are a diverse group of students with our own skills, strengths and styles. What we do have in common is an eagerness to step into the design industry and make our mark.

Last Thursday, all 25 graduating graphic design students dropped everything they were working on and became production workers for the day—hand assembling more than a thousand sketchbooks.

The whole CLEAN SLATE crew met downstairs in the print workshop at North Metropolitan TAFE in Perth to manufacture the sketchbooks. There are twelve different versions of the books, with each book featuring a couple of great sketches from the projects we’ve been working on throughout the year.

Not Quite Ripe Fundraiser Exhibition

In August a small group of the graduates decided to run a exhibition to fundraise for the end of year graduation show and it was titled Not Quite Ripe. Heather and Hayley came up with the name to highlight that the students are nearly ‘ripe for the picking’ and getting ready to hop into the industry. So to follow suit, a large amount of the works of art for sale had an underlying theme of ‘ripe’. So botanical designs, fresh prints, juicy jewellery and knick knacks were available. All works of art were sold through a silent auction process. Plus there was a feast of fresh fruit tasters, bubbly brew and the pièce de résistance the hand carved watermelon created by Heather!
